"John Beaumont Pease the cousin of Joseph Pease bought Bushell Hill as a country retreat and in 1862 Mowden Hall was built. When he died in 1873 he left his fortune to his son Edwin Lucas who became the Squire of Bushell Hill and in 1881 Mowden Hall was extended. However in 1889 Edwin Lucas Pease died after falling during a fox hunt and the Estate was left to William Edwin Pease.
