Donald W "Bill" Carlson, 73, of Colo died of a heart ailment Friday at home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nevada Baptist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Colo Cemetery.
Mr Carlson was born in Des Moines and had lived in Colo for most of his life. He was a farmer, an Army veteran of World War II and a 4-H leader.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda; two sons, John of Macomb, Illinois, and Tom of Colo; two brothers, John of Talkeetna, Alaska and Glen of Lena, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.2
Wanda Carlson, 88, of Nevada, formerly of Colo, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada. She was born Nov. 1, 1927 to Thomas and Gertrude Huntrods of Collins, IA. She was a loving sister to Jessie (Paul) Heffelfinger, Vernon (Pearl) Huntrods, Charles “Bill” (Ruth) Huntrods, and Maxine “Peg” Haley, all deceased.
She married Donald William “Bill” Carlson Dec 26, 1949. He died Dec. 24, 1999. She is survived by sons John (Colleen) Carlson and Tom (Dee) Carlson. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Wanda graduated from Collins High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She taught several years at Colo Grade School. She enjoyed homemaking and gardening. She was active in the Iowa Porkettes, serving one year as president. She was an avid supporter of the 4-H program serving many years as a judge at the Story County Fair. She was a longtime member of the BF&T Club, supported Colo Schools’ sports and music events, and promoted community events. She was active in her church throughout her life. But she is best known for her dedicated service as librarian from 1981 to 2002 at the Colo Public Library.
