Lucile White, 96, formerly of Rhodes, Iowa, area passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, at the Rhodes United Methodist Church in Rhodes, Iowa, with Pastor Walden Paige officiating.

 

Lucile Coleen Huntrods was born on February 23, 1920, near Collins in Jasper County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Donald Simpson and Vera Estella (Eatwell) Huntrods. She graduated from the Collins high School in 1937 and then attended the Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for one-year.

 

On February 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Vernon White at the Collins EUB Church. They lived most of their married life in the Rhodes area. Mrs. White began her working career teaching school in Jasper County and then became a homemaker and farmwife working alongside her husband. She was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church, was an active member of the United Methodist Women, served as the Spiritual Growth Coordinator for the Waterloo District UMW and was a board member of Bidwell-Riverside Center in Des Moines. In the community she was a member of the FNG and SSSS Club. She also served on the Marshall County Extension Council.

 

Left to cherish Lucile’s memory are her children: Marlys (Dennis) Mitchell of Buckingham, IA; Patricia Johnson of Portland, OR; John White of Rhodes, IA; and Carol (Jim) Hornby of Black River Falls, WI; eleven grandchildren: Susan (Tom) Burzlaff of Muscatine, IA; Paul (Tammi) Mitchell of Waterloo, IA; Linda (Brian) Horn of Madrid, IA; Robin Johnson (Michael Tavel) of Denver, CO; Alexis Jale (Brett) Kenney of Portland, OR; Peri Johnson (Omur Harmansah) of Chicago, IL; Vachel (Katie) White of Rhodes, IA; Emile White of Redwood City, CA; Amy (Oscar) Uribe of Winona, MN; Jason (Shannan) Hornby of Oconomowoc, WI; and Cara (Paul) Gilbertson of Osceola, WI; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In death, Lucile joined her beloved husband Vernon who passed away in 2005, her parents; sisters: Donna Ose, Margaret Struthers, Myrl Lauffer, Iris Lawson, Mary Huntrods and brother, William Huntrods.
